This software is no longer available for the download. This could be due to the program being discontinued, having a security issue or for other reasons.

What I did was install DirectX 9.0c in Linux using Wine and then installed Tropico 3. Lo and behold, it works, beautifully. I can play the game with details set to high without any problems or glitches, everything runs smoothly and even the sound quality is great.

These files may or may not be required, but it does not hurt to have them anyway. The two files in question are mscoree.dll and streamci.dll. The first is a module containing .NET Framework functions, the second is a library used to install streaming hardware devices. You can copy these files from your Windows installations, if you have some, or download them from the web. A good online source that offers these file is DLL-files.com.

In general, when you have to download DLLs or similar files from the web, it is always a good idea to stick to reputable sources, compare the file size and hash to those advertised by Microsoft and perhaps even upload the files to Jotti or VirusTotal for a perfunctory scan. You can also check the reputation of the website serving DLLs using a community service like Web of Trust (WOT). In this case, DLL-files gets a pretty decent score.

You need the redistributable package, because the installation won't handle the online installer well. Once the file is downloaded, run the executable with Wine. Note: Microsoft tends to change the download links now and then, so if the link above is broken, Google for it.

If you also want to have enhanced sound effects and whatnot, you will need another driver. The file in question is called gm.dls and you can find it listed on several websites, available for download. Again, use discretion when downloading files like this. Make sure they are digitally signed by Microsoft, with the proper size and hash value. Likewise, checking these files against Jotti or VirusTotal may not hurt. If you have Windows installed, look for the file on your machine. Copy the file to system32/drivers:

For example, Tropico 3 requires d3dx9_41.dll, without which the game start will fail. The above subset includes only d3dx9_24.dll and d3dx9_36.dll, but not the latest one. No worries, head to DLL-files.com and download the missing item(s).

I was finally able ( after 8 hours searching, reinstalling, updating and rebooting ) to correctly download and install Directx 9.0B ( no dll errors ) via a game called RTW which had the dx 9.0b drivers included in their game, that worked !

But somehow I am not able anymore now to install DX 9.0C as planned. I can download the needed files from Micrsosoft but every time I unpack and try to install those drivers then the system sais SYSTEM UPDATED TO DIRECTX 9.0C but when I restart this is NOT viewable anywhere in the DX Diagnostics.

It's installed/patched but the patcher says:"We detected that one ore more DirectX components are out of date! Would you like to update now?" /"A version of the DirectX 9.0c (June 2010) redistributable or later was not detected.

If it is d3dx9_43.dll it's looking for, installing directxruntime modern (or legacy) won't give you a native version of thatdll. As it stands, nor will dxwebsetup if it's installed 'as is'...

If you remove the symbolic link to the d3dx9_43.dll in your bottle's/drive_c/windows/system32/ directory, and then reinstall dxwebsetup,it will download/install a native d3dx9_43.dll (you could downloadand copy a native dll into place, but then you don't necessarily knowwhat dll version you're getiing)

There would be heaps of things you could try ; the fact the behavior has altered means whatever's at fault is likely to be in, around or near an area of wine core being worked on. The game being in beta and not copies about just makes things harder. You could grab a debuglog as detailed on this page -- -- and sniff +seh +trace +ntdll +d3d ; there might be a clue in that....gzip the log (or you can check through it yourself, look for lines beginining with 'err:' or 'warn:' as first choice candidates) and upload it to some public repo (ie; rapidshare or the like) and post the download URL back here...I'll grab it and have a peek..

The easy way to verify your DirectX Levels is to download and run our DirectX Test Tool. It's a small download (70Kb) and is an executable file (exe, no install needed). However, if you prefer, you can do some of the checks manually. Our products use the DirectSound components (dsound.dll and Microsoft.DirectX.DirectSound.dll) of DirectX 9.0c.

  • Find this Windows registry key HKey Local Machine\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectX,Version=4.09.00.0904. If found and the Version value matches exactly, then DirectX 9.0c is installed.Instructions Run the Registry Editor by Start -- All Programs -- Accessories -- Run and type "Regedit". Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectX . The "Version" value should read 4.09.0000.0904 if you have 9.0c installed. If the "DirectX" key is missing, 9.0c not installed. Beware, DO NOT change the value manually!! That won't work and could cause severe problems when booting Windows. Editing the registry is only for advanced users.

  • Instructions To check for DirectX 9.0c, go to Start -- Run, type "DXDIAG" and click OK. This will pop up DirectX Diagnostic Tool (Figure 1.).

  • On the DirectX Diagnostic Tool -- System tab (Figure 1.), look for DirectX Version 9.0c. If it shows an earlier version you will need to upgrade.

  • On the DirectX Diagnostic Tool -- DirectX Files tab (Figure 2.), look for dsound.dll. It should be dated March 2008 or later. Or check the date on the dsound.dll file in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ folder (or where ever you have Windows installed). Also, look for Microsoft.DirectX.DirectSound.dll. It should be dated February 2007 or later.

The Registry Check described above is generally sufficient on Windows 10/8/7 . On Windows 10/8/7 , if you check DirectX Diagnostic Tool (as described in the XP section above), DirectX 10 or 11 does not necessarily mean that DirectX 9.0c is installed!! (see Figure 3.) And a program that requires DirectX 9.0c will not run unless DirectX 9.0c is installed, regardless that DirectX-10 or later is installed.

Has anyone noticed that Microsoft defines "version" a little loosely when it comes to DirectX 9.0c? Here's a screenshot of the DirectX 9.0c download page on FileHippo:DirectX 9.0c was originally released in August 2004, according to the DirectX Wikipedia entry. But Microsoft has surreptitiously been updating DirectX 9.0c since August 2005 without incrementing the version number. It is not known why Microsoft has not used new version numbers for the updates to DX9.0c -- including the December 2005 update versioning could now be at DX9.0j, although this is nowhere reflected in the internal code.So do you want version 9.0c, 9.0c, 9.0c, or perhaps.. 9.0c?The versions are all fully backwards compatible, of course, but why is Microsoft abusing version numbers this way? It's impossible to tell what version of DirectX 9.0 you're actually running. I've installed several games over the past year which inexplicably demanded to re-install DirectX 9.0c; now I know why.At least Vista stops the madness by finally changing the version number to DirectX 9.0L.

  • DirectX 9.0c (which includes the runtime web installer) is a selection of technologies developed by Microsoft which make running rich and immersive gaming on Windows systems possible. Most modern games require this prerequesite to be installed on your Windows system in order to function. The DirectX 9.0c package may be used to satisfy these requirements.DirectX 9.0c includes support for Pixel Shader and Vertex Shader 3.0, along with many new features across all technologies, which can be accessed by applications using DirectX.The latest version of the Windows Gaming API includes the new High-Level Shader Language which new games can take advantage of.It's already installed on Windows 7 and aboveWindows 7 comes with a newer version of DirectX but is fully compatible with all of the new features of DirectX 9.0 and above. Additionally, in order to take advantage of the features of DirectX, you must ensure that you have installed a DirectX compliant video card.If you're wanting an even newer version, DirectX 10 is also available. This version is the download of the redistributable version. That means it may be included in software packages or just simply used freely by anyone wishing to update their DirectX version on Windows XP or Windows 7 (32-bit).The package contains the installer for Windows XP, the installer for Windows 7 and is compatible with the redistributable from February 2010 and June 2010. This web installer package works with DirectX 9 graphics devices with WDDM 1.0 or higher drivers. In case you run into issues when installing this package, you may have an older video card that is not compatible with DirectX 9.0c.Please note: If you are using Windows 7 and a game or other programs requires you to have compatible video or audio driver installed, you should check to see whether there is a patch available for the game or program you have installed. In some cases, simply installing updated drivers for your video or audio card solves the problem. If updating drivers doesn't help, running the program in compatibility mode may.DirectShow accelerates video rendering hardware, and Direct3D enhances low-level graphics programmability with new programmable vertex and pixel shader 2.0 models. DirectX 9.0c includes support for Pixel Shader and Vertex Shader 3.0.The program can't start because d3dx9_35.dll is missingFinally, you can give this application a go if you experience this issue on your computer. Though if you're running Windows 8, Windows 10 or Windows 11, it's unlikely to be of much help as these files come standard with the operating system itself.Features of DirectX 9.0c3D Audio: Supports 3D positional audio, allowing for a more immersive audio experience.
